Copper Cut Out Finalization

 


    Paper Cut Out Draft:


After drafting out my copper cut out. I immediately noticed some parts of my project that I want fixed. Firstly, the stand does work, once I use actual copper for my project it will work, and I think it looks really really nice. 


Now everything else needs some changes. Firstly, I need to set the notches that holds an item rests a bit more forwards as the idea of the head leaning on the stand does not work, the stand props the card too high and is unstable.







Next, I also made the wave cut outs slightly smaller, especially the small details as I'm worried that when I'm folding my copper project the waves will get distorted due to the narrow space. 


I also need to use grasshopper to help make the dotted lines actually dotted and test if it will cut on the water jet cutter whenever I do that. 


I managed to figure the code out after some struggling and my project should be good for cutting tomorrow.

Copper Folding         Idea Generation:    I can tell that this project is going to be a difficult challenge as I'm not familiar with paper craft, or in this case- folding copper to resemble a 3D object. I personally like my created objects to have a sort of functionality, so the object I created is a mini stand that can hold things like business cards or small photographs. I initially started off with a shape that is similar to my paper craft however, I think the shape came out kind of plain and while it will do its job as a stand. I don't think I challenged myself enough. Also it sort of looks like the Eiffel Tower which is not my intention. I made a quick sketch, I want to make a stand that looks like a swan and have supports that looks like its feathers pooling on a flat surface. I made a rough outline of a swan. Clock Thumbnails

  The overall shape of all my clocks are relatively similar. I also hope that I can use multiple colors of resin or different  colored .plastics to piece together a clock for added definition. This is my least inspired page. For the heart clock I thought it'd be cool if I could engrave a piece of clear plastic with the time and then put a cut out of a anatomical heart in the center. It'd be simple looking, but I think it'd be sleek and stylish. The "Nessie" clock is also similar in execution, but it is my least favorite one. I think it looks really ugly, but that's why it stays in my roughs. The moth man clock on the top right is my favorite idea. I wanna see if I can cut out this shape and place a clock in the center. If I can't cut out multiple pieces I can always paint parts of the clock if needed.  The "angel halo" clock is based off of one of my character's Dove. Copper Cut Out Final

    Finalization             2D Plane: I begin to finalize my rough, I traced my original rough and cut off the ends of the swan so that I can bend it into shape. I originally wanted my stand to bend into a v shape along the back, but I feared that prolonged use would cause the stand to snap.  It was then suggested to me that I bend the back of the stand into a U shape instead, this offers more stability for the stand and also solves the problem of the copper potentially snapping.  It was easier for me to make the 'unfolded' version of the stan first.  I then folded the swan part of the stand up and mirrored it.  Final Render: 2D Layout: Final Thoughts: Besides the modeling part, I generally had no idea what I was doing to be honest.
